British AI infrastructure startup Nscale has reached a $14.6 billion valuation after raising $2 billion in a Series C funding round, one of the largest in European history. This achievement highlights the growing demand for scalable AI compute solutions across global enterprises.
Nscale differentiates itself through vertical integration, managing everything from energy and data centers to compute hardware and orchestration software. Their Stargate Norway initiative plans to deploy 100,000 Nvidia GPUs by 2026, supporting AI workloads for clients such as OpenAI.
The company has strengthened its leadership by adding former Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg, former Yahoo president Susan Decker, and former U.K. deputy prime minister Nick Clegg to its board. CEO Josh Payne has suggested an IPO could happen as early as this year to support further growth.
Key investors include Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Nvidia, Dell, Aker, and Microsoft. Partnerships with Microsoft and Aker expand GPU capacity and streamline project management, respectively.
Nscale also focuses on sustainability by utilizing renewable energy and reusing waste heat, while investing in local skills and infrastructure to support regional development.
With this new funding and leadership, Nscale aims to accelerate AI infrastructure development across multiple continents, setting a new benchmark for scalable and sustainable AI compute solutions.
